| Bio: | I'm a law student at Exeter College (Oxford University). Not one of your standard three-year lawyers, but a "non-straight" lawyer. There are many interpretations of that (which led to some awkward moments for some of my friends asking other lawyers if they were "straight ones"), but the phrase was coined to describe the fact that I'm also studying French Law and hence disappeared to Paris in September 2006 for the 3rd year of my 4 year degree. I'm now back amongst the dreaming spires, and very glad to be so. Even if some dear friends are no longer here with me, there are plenty of other old - and some new - wonderful people.
I come from a small village in Somerset, via a year in Hong Kong, and will almost certainly wind up in London post Oxford/Paris. I have a bad habit of falling in love with places where I live. To be fair, it's not been hard - one idyllic country village, Oxford, Paris (one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and positively steeped in history), and Hong Kong, which is - or perhaps was - lively, exciting, and eye-opening in the extreme, not least because of the co-existing cultures.
I always do too much. I'm stubborn, bloody-minded and unco-ordinated; this can have unfortunate consequences if I'm dashing around too much. I did a good job of fixing the doing-too-much during my year in Paris though, as I didn't actually organise anything, just sing with a wonderful choir (and of course do work and sociable/cultural things). I also started dashing about again - though in the very literal sense, as I took up running, to the horror of my old school teachers.
Back in Oxford now, though, and life rolls on, in a surprisingly mostly stress-free way. I love my subjects, and now I have a job offer with The Firm, my life as a City lawyer is set for the next few years after I leave - though I'm in no hurry to do that yet.
I geek about quite a lot of things, though generally not in my journal - I tend to do it quietly on the side. This might change if I ever poke myself into getting round to writing fic - having not written anything that wasn't work since primary school until last year, I now have one huge project in progress (still moving onwards, not stopped) and various ideas for other things that I don't really know how to get started on.
One of my favourite things in the world is cooking food for friends and sitting down for a good meal (especially, though not exclusively, if I don't have to do all the washing up myself afterwards too!). I have yet to poison anyone, and I'm told it's actually even sometimes edible. The apple and thyme mash has become something of a staple speciality.
I have 31 kinds of tea.
A few things I am rarely, if ever, and don't really want ever want to be without:
- My black Parker fountain pen (the case is replaceable, the nib is not)
- A thick A6 ruled notebook with a ribbon
- My 2cm tall glazed white pottery duck with green feet and a yellow beak
- My silver puzzle ring
